The legacy of Canadian fashion icon
Marilyn Brooks, C.M., O.Ont.

A celebrated designer, artist, entrepreneur and author, Marilyn Brooks was a visionary force in Canadian fashion for more than four decades. From the 1960s through the 2000s, she helped shape the industry, leaving an enduring mark on its creative and cultural landscape.

Marilyn was deeply committed to mentoring emerging talent and was involved with numerous charitable causes. We are grateful for her lasting impact on Seneca Polytechnic students and we are honoured to house part of her collection in the Seneca Canadian Fashion Resource Centre. From 1976 to 1983, she served as a member of Seneca’s Fashion Merchandising Program Advisory Committee.

A gift in memory of Marilyn Brooks will honour her remarkable legacy by empowering and inspiring the next generation of fashion students at Seneca Polytechnic.

As Marilyn wrote in her book Behind the Seams, “Mentor, share, inspire, encourage, stimulate up and comers whenever you can with encouragement. They will make the world a better place.”
